WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES YOUR STATION NEED?
· Your station will need an ADSL, DSL, ISDN or Data Satellite connection. SYNLINK currently only supports a minimum connection speed of 512/128. For maximum stability we recommend at least 1500/256 or ADSL2,2+ speeds. If you are arranging a connection our preferred carriers are:
SYNLINK is accessible through all current Australian ISP’s. If your station is based overseas please Click Here to ensure that your ISP is in a coverage area.
· Your station needs to run a scheduler for SYNLINK. The scheduler lets you select programs from the Electronic Program Guide to broadcast.

Stations using Ausradiostation software can include SYNLINK programs in their normal network schedule. |
|
WHAT DOES IT COST?
24/7 access to SYNLINK is completely free for radio stations, on a barter basis (excluding any separate lease fees if you choose to use a leased SYNLINK Studio Unit). You get access to SYNLINK content in exchange for airing a small amount of included advertising.
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
SYNLINK is delivered in CD quality direct to your studio.
HOW DO WE USE IT?
You add programs from the EPG to the scheduler which will then play them automatically when you have planned them.
ARE WE OBLIGATED TO BROADCAST PROGRAMMING?
SYNLINK makes thousands of hours of high quality radio content available to your station every week. When you use it and what you use of the available programming is entirely up to you. Keep SYNLINK as a backup or broadcast your choice of programs from it every week. Schedule programs overnight or over the weekend.
DOES IT CONSUME MUCH INTERNET BANDWIDTH?
SYNLINK will never use more than approximately 10 Gigabytes per month of download bandwidth. This approximation is based on programming being delivered around the clock for the 30 days. If you use SYNLINK to broadcast a couple of hours each week during the month it will be considerably less.
WHAT TYPES OF PROGRAMMING ARE AVAILABLE?
SYNLINK is supplied with programming by a constantly growing list of providers. Each provider can provide up to 500 separate channels into the EPG which you get to choose programs from. Or you can select your favorite provider (e.g. “ZFM Digital”) and just select programs from their channels. Most forms of music are already represented and as SYNLINK grows those genres will be available on many different channels. You might like to consider supplying a channel for other stations to use. You can find details on how to become a provider (or obtain a channel) HERE.
WHAT TIME ZONES DO YOU SUPPORT
Currently all channels (regardless of their source) are scheduled according to Australian Eastern Standard Time. If you are outside this time-zone you will need to manually calculate the appropriate comparable time in your area when scheduling shows. If for example your time-zone is an hour behind AEST, and you want a program for “7 pm” you would choose shows from “8pm” in the scheduler.
THE FUTURE
The current generation of SYNLINK is only the first step! The next stage of SYNLINK development will include technology to cue local advertising audio and even station ID’s. We will also be implementing time zone conversion so what you see in your program guide will be in your own time zone. |
